“Wall Dogs, Letter Heads & Bill Posters: A Living History Demonstration of the Golden Age of Billboard Making”

The Billboard Museum Association held a press event just before the start of the workshop. We revealed our logo, announced our 501c3 status, kicked off  our membership drive, and appealed for donations of materials.

Three presenters demonstrated skills utilizing several of the old-time techniques.

Bill Ferquaine, owner of A to Z Signs and former billboard painter, showed the step by step process used to transfer art to a billboard surface, and various painting techniques.

Dr. Robert Palmer, muralist and professor, Bethany, OK, created a mural showing an old-time wall dog plying his craft, explaining mural painting techniques.

Daniel “Boone” Fuller, third-generation bill poster and owner of Fuller Outdoor Advertising, St. Louis, MO, gave a demonstration of how the multiple sheets that often make up billboards of the past were pasted up by using the technique of long-handle bill posting.
